Carved Rotten Spruce, 2025

I removed a section of rotten/ant-eaten heartwood from a fallen spruce tree and carefully carved the crumbly wood into an hourglass form. Close to the aperture of the hourglass you can see where two different species of fungi meet and create a thin border in the wood.
